By the Casa Marari team Updated about 1.5 km (5 min drive) from Casa Marari
Chethy Beach is the stretch of coast directly west of Casa Marari, just north of the better-known Mararikulam Beach. It is small, local and wonderfully uncrowded — a fishing beach where traditional boats rest on the sand and the only sound most evenings is the surf.
Casa Marari sits on Chethy Beach Road, about 1.5 km from the sand.
What to expect
- A working fishing beach. Boats, nets and fishermen — not sunbeds and shacks.
- Space. Even in December you will often have long stretches of sand to yourself.
- Sunsets. Like Marari, Chethy faces west over the Arabian Sea.
Tips for visiting
- Go early or late. Sunrise walks and sunset are the best times; midday sun is harsh.
- Respect the fishing community. Walk around nets and boats, and ask before photographing people.
- Swim with care. Swim only on calm days between November and March, close to shore, and never during the monsoon.
- Carry water and take your rubbish back. There are few facilities on the beach.
Chethy or Marari?
Do both — they are only a few kilometres apart. Marari has a little more infrastructure and a longer promenade of sand; Chethy is even quieter. Many guests cycle to Chethy for sunset one evening and to Marari Beach the next.
Getting there
From Casa Marari, follow Chethy Beach Road west for about 1.5 km. Borrow one of our free bicycles — it is the nicest way to go, passing village homes, coconut groves and canals. See more things to do around Casa Marari.
